Community Ministries
Reaching out is an important part of our mission as followers of Jesus. We have a two-arm approach to serving the needs of the community. One focus is outreach and the other is peace and justice.

Homelessness Outreach
Homelessness is a growing issue in our country and local community. St. James strives to do our best to reach out to those suffering from homelessness or housing instability. Several of our parishioners serve on the Wooster Homelessness Task Force and work with Behind Bars and Beyond to assist people transitioning out of jail. St. James helps to support multiple feeding programs in Wooster and we house a porta-potty in our back parking lot for the use of anyone that needs it. We are always discussing new ideas and seeking new projects to help alleviate homelessness in our community.

Peace & Justice Committee
We seek to make God’s love tangible by
• Educating ourselves about issues of justice and peace;
• Advocating for just policies in the church, the community, and the world;
• Encouraging all of us to use our different gifts and talents to work for
justice and peace; and
• Initiating, collaborating in and facilitating interfaith projects and programs.
We have led and facilitated such projects as Bystander Training, Alternative Holiday Gift Market, LGBTQ+ panels, biennial Scarlet, Gray & Green Fair (environmental sustainability), Wooster Homelessness Task Force, Wooster Interfaith Justice Committee, staffing a booth with the NAACP at the Wayne County Fair, and programs to welcome migrants to our community.

12-Step Groups
For years, St. James has opened its doors to the 12-Step community. We believe this is an essential ministry to people in recovery. The number of groups we host varies based on the life of the groups that meet here. We have hosted as many as 17 groups per week. This ministry is so important to St. James that a major component of the planning of our new building was finding ways to host these groups as safely and as accessibly as possible. The meetings are listed on our calendar on the opening page of this website.
