Holy Week at St. James


March 25        Palm Sunday             9:00 am service

The blessing of the palms.  The Eucharist and ending the service with the Passion reading from the Gospel of Mark.


March 28        Wednesday                8:00 am service

Holy Eucharist with the readings for Wednesday in Holy Week.


March 29          Maundy Thursday    6:00 pm

We begin in St. Nicholas Hall with the Agape meal and will be celebrating the Eucharist at tables. After the Eucharist we will go into the church for the stripping of the altar. 


Night Watch              9:00 pm – 9:00 am

The Night Watch is a prayer vigil throughout the night remembering Jesus praying in the garden,  his arrest and the time before Jesus starts his walk to the cross.


March 30        Good Friday 12 noon and 7:00 pm

12 Noon – Stations of the Cross in the Church is a meditative prayer using the images of Jesus from his arrest to the time he is laid in the tomb.


7:00 pm – The Prayer Book service for Good Friday which includes the reading of Christ’s Passion from the Gospel of John, the Solemn Collects (prayers) for the church and the world. This is a quiet and reflective service.


March 31        Holy Saturday and the Great Vigil of Easter  8:00 pm

Holy Saturday gives way to Easter eve at sunset.  We gather for the blessing of the new Fire, the lighting of the new Paschal Candle, then the exsultat is chanted.  We hear five stories of God’s salvation and respond with song and prayer.  We renew our baptismal covenant and then hear the Gospel of Resurrection and conclude with the Holy Eucharist.
