Peace and Justice Committee
Who and What is the Peace and Justice Committee?
We seek to make God’s love tangible by
- educating about issues of justice and peace
- advocating for just policies and procedures in the church, the community, and the wider world
- encouraging all of us to use our different gifts and talents to work for justice and peace,
- initiating, collaborating in and facilitating interfaith projects and programs
Since 2006, the Committee has focused on ways we as a congregation can support global efforts to end hunger and poverty and operate as good environmental stewards in our church. We have concerned ourselves with issues of race and equality in our community; we have exhibited projects on “what one church can do” at the Scarlet, Gray & Green Earth Day Fair; and we recently initiated an Interfaith Justice Committee, with members from a number of area faith communities who serve on three working groups: Poverty; incarceration and re-entry (Behind Bars & Beyond); and the Environment (Wayne Clean Water Partnership).
Committee members are Susan Figge (chair), Damon Hickey, Mary Hickey, John Houck, Janice Miller and Louise Plusquellec. We welcome new members. If you are interested in what we do, have suggestions or information to share or would like to come to a meeting, please contact one of the current members.
